The natural lava stone is extracted by hand from the mine at Volvic in central France .

 

 

 

 

The kilns are fired up and run for around 8 hours at temperatures up to 1050c.

The lava stone boulders are transported to the factory in Volvic where they are cut into blocks, slabs and tiles ready for finishing.

The cut stone is transported from Volvic to the factory in Castelsarrasin in south-western France.

Using advanced CNC technology, raw slabs are cut and shaped to the precise dimensions prescribed by the designer’s CAD drawings.  Water jet cutting completes the detail of special shapes and features.

Surfaces are prepared with meticulous care in  preparation for the glazing.

The glaze colours are carefully selected from an extensive range of existing colours or developed as new ones.
